Therapy Services

Saddled Souls Therapy Services (TS) offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and mental health therapy services. Therapists incorporate multiple treatment plans including social skills, manual manipulation, and equine movement as necessary.

Occupational Therapy

The goal of occupational therapy is ensuring children's independence with activities of daily living. Occupational therapist's help children who struggle in many areas including but not limited to functional play, grooming/ hygiene, fine motor, visual motor, social-emotional regulation, self-organization, hand-eye coordination, bilateral coordination, somatosensory processing, functional strength, environmental/ body awareness and self care routines. Occupational therapists can use the highly organizing and rhymical equine movement to address modulation, registration, and integration of sensory information to improve functional engagement across various contexts.

Physical Therapy

The goal of physical therapy is maximizing a child's ability to navigate their world. Physical therapists help children who struggle with body function deficits including strength, balance, and coordination. They can use the dynamic movement of the horse to increase trunk control, balance, build strength and endurance, weight bearing and motor planning. The multidimensional movement imparted to the patient is similar to a human walking gait making it a beneficial tool to address gait training, core strength and mobility, postural alignment, and head/ trunk control.

Speech-Language Therapy

The goal of speech-language therapy is ensuring communication. Speech therapists help children who struggle in a variety of communication aspects including speech sounds, language, executive functions, and social pragmatics. Speech therapists are able to utilize equine movement as one of their tools to influence the sensory systems, cortical pathways, and muscle tone to influence respiratory control, timing, and posture to improve communication.

Mental Health Counseling

The goal of mental health counselors is to increase awareness and tools for processing thoughts and feelings. Counselors focus on building self-esteem, improving communication skills, supporting an appropriate emotional range. Counselors are able to utilize the horse from the ground and equine movement as one of their tools to holistically influence perception, self-awareness, non-verbal communication, and coping strategies to help the child process and make appropriate decisions.
